Bill Murray confirms that he’s joined the cast of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Bill Murray would appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Well now it seems that the legendary actor has confirmed that he is coming to the MCU.

During an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Murray revealed the news.

“You know, recently I made a Marvel movie. I probably won’t tell you, but never mind. In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project. But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much,” Murray told the paper. “He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On he made a movie years ago, which I think is damn good. So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise.”

The part where Murray says that the director of the “Marvel movie” he worked on also directed Bring It On, is what officially confirms the news. Peyton Reed, whose helming Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, was the one that directed the cheerleading comedy back in 2000.

Unfortunately, it sounds like this will be a onetime appearance for the Ghostbuster star. Later on in the interview, he would go onto say that he doesn’t think he will be back.

“Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie,” the comedy legend added. “But I don’t think I need that experience a second time. And to come back to your previous question: I have mostly had a pretty good knack for avoiding the nasties of this industry. Fortunately, most good artists are also good people. At least that’s how I experience it with my friends.”

As for who Murray is playing, it’s still unknown. The best guess I’ve seen online is that he’s playing the father of Paul Rudd’s character Scott Lang.

Filming for the third Ant-Man film began all the way back in June. Along with Murray and Rudd, it will star Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, and Jonathan Majors as the time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror.

Look for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania to hit theaters on July 28, 2023.
