Back in January, fans were shocked to learn that Christian Bale was in talks to join the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. Speculation began on who the three-time Batman star could play. One of the popular picks was that he would be portraying the MCU’s Beta Ray Bill. Over the last month, however, rumors have been swirling that Bale might actually be playing the film’s villain. Recently this was confirmed by one of the film’s stars.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, gave some insight on his role:
“Some familiar faces, some new people into the mix, Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic.”
So unless the MCU’s version of Beta Ray Bill is going to be evil(wouldn’t rule it out), it looks Bale will be playing someone that has not been thought of yet. MCU Cosmic reports that the villain is an “alien and otherworldly” type. They also note that villains that meet that standard are Gorr, Gladiator, and Michael Korvac.
Keep an eye on San Diego Comic-Con this summer. I would bet there will be announcements related to this. Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on November 5th, 2021.
