In January, the third installment of the Bad Boys For Life hit theaters and was hit with praise from both critics and fans. After the first two films were directed by Michael Bay, the franchise turned to young filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, and they certainly delivered. Weeks after the film was released, the directors confirmed in an interview that they had conversations with Marvel about working together.
In a new interview with Discussing Film, the two talked about what Marvel characters they would want to work with:
El Arbi: “There’s so much. You know, we love Deadpool.”
Fallah: “We love Deadpool!”
El Arbi: “Definitely. I mean there is more of an edge. If there was a Marvel character in the Bad Boys world…”
Fallah: “It would be Deadpool.”
El Arbi: “Then Blade is cool too!”
It appears that Blade and Deadpool are at least two of the films that came up in their meeting with Marvel Studios. Like Bad Boys, both characters were portrayed as rated R. When asked if it was important that their films remain that way, Adil El Arbi had this response.
“Well, it depends. There are stories that are PG and correspond to the world that you don’t need to do an R rating if it doesn’t fit. Deadpool is good for an R rating because it’s part of that personality. But I don’t think that Spider-Man needs to be rated R, so it depends.”
It could be a coincidence, but I do find it interesting that within a week there are two stories related to Marvel making rated R films. Behind the scenes, it’s possible that they are having these debates, and it could also be that there is a split on what to do. Who knows, like I said, it could be nothing, and it really is a coincidence. Hopefully, within a couple of months, we have a better idea of what’s going on with these characters.
