Avengers: Endgame writers confirm Namor/Atlantis Easter egg

By Stephen Ippolito | April 28th, 2020

During a scene in Avengers: Endgame, Natasha Romanova (aka Black Widow) is meeting with members of the team to get status reports. In an exchange between her and Okoye, Natasha asks if there’s anything in her region to report on. Okoye responds by saying that they detected an earthquake at the bottom of the ocean but doesn’t think it’s any kind of issue.

Since that scene, many have wondered if this was a tease of Namor and Atlantis coming to the MCU. Some even think that this could signal that Namor will be the villain in Black Panther 2.

During Comic Book.com’s Quarantine Watch Party for Endgame, writers of the film Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely joined in on the showing.  Taking over the Comic Book.com’s Twitter handle, the writers addressed the scene when a fan brought it up.

So they seemingly confirm that it was intended to tease Namor to the MCU. This isn’t the first time that one of the oldest characters in Marvel Comics history has been teased. In Iron Man 2, a global map showing different locations had one of its spots in the middle of the Atlantic. This was also the same map that gave the MCU it’s first Blank Panther hint when it showed Wakanda.

Also, a recent rumor by MCU Cosmic says that Atlantis will make it’s MCU debut in the upcoming Eternals film. Possibly paving the way for Namor’s long-awaited arrival.
