Two weeks ago, news broke that Chris Evans was in talks to return as Steve Rodgers (aka Captain America) in the MCU. Details of how exactly he would return were unclear. The report did say though that it would be more of a supporting role and not his own standalone film.
During a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Anthony Mackie, who plays the Sam Wilson (aka Falcon), addressed the rumors on Evans’ potential return.
“You know, I’ve heard that,” Mackie said. “Like, I’ve seen that, and, look, Chris is my boy, so if they’re getting the band back together, I’ll be very happy with that.”
To no surprise, Mackie would welcome Evans’ return. The two actors are friends and have worked together since 2014 when Mackie made his first MCU appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They would go on to be in four more films together (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame)
The last time we saw Evans’ Rodgers and Mackie’s Wilson together was at the end of Endgame. In the scene, a now-elderly Cap gives Falcon his shield, implying he will become the new Captain America. The upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier series on Disney+ is expected to be about how Falcon handles becoming the new Cap.
As for how Evans could possibly return to the MCU after he’s supposedly dead? Who knows. If I did have to guess, it would somehow involve the Multiverse. The third Spider-Man film and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are both expected to deal with it, so perhaps this is where Evans will pop up.
