Andrew Garfield has finally started to open up about appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home. On Thursday, the flood gates opened when Variety posted his very first comments on his return. Now in another interview that was released earlier today, The Amazing Spider-Man actor talked even more and revealed something he and another returning Spidey did on the film’s opening night.
While speaking to Entertainment Tonight (ET), Garfield revealed that during the first night of its release, he and Tobey Maguire disguised themselves and snuck into a screening.
“I still can’t believe it happened,” Garfield gushed. “I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask. In fact, I was also with Tobey, me and Tobey snuck into a theater together and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together.”
First off, the fact that no one recognized him or Tobey is mind-boggling to me. The movie’s first night was filled with the most diehard Spider-Man/MCU fans, so I would’ve thought that at least someone would have recognized them.
Anyway, from his comments so far, it seems like Garfield has really enjoyed his experience of coming back to the franchise. He definitely deserves it after the way it ended so suddenly in 2015.
It’s unknown if he or Maguire will reprise their roles in more Spider-Man or Marvel films. During his interview yesterday, Garfield said he would “definitely” be open to returning if it “felt right .” In his talk with ET, the actor again stressed that he would consider it.
“Never say never… It’s a character that’s always going to be so meaningful to me, and so beautiful to me and again, it comes back to service,” he shared. “I think if there’s a way, because that’s what that character is all about, he’s all about serving the greater good and serving his fellow people, serving humanity and all life. So, if there’s a way for me to continue to add to the legacy of that character in a way that feels like it’s of service to an audience, of service to the themes that Stan Lee injected that character with, I’m open, of course, I’m very, very open, but it would have to be very, very special. It would have to be very, very meaningful and fun, and joyful, like doing No Way Home was. It’s always going to be a part of me, whether I’m playing the character or not, I feel very connected to him, he went on to add.”
Update on 1/8/22:
Photos have now surfaced online of Garfield and Maguire after watching No Way Home on opening night. I looks like they were also joined by the director of the film Jon Watts.
