News for the upcoming Sony and Marvel Studios produced Spider-Man film just keeps getting more interesting. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Dr. Otto Gunther Octavius (AKA Doctor Octopus) in Spider-Man 3. Molina, of course played the role in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 in 2004.
With Molina joining the cast, the film will now have representatives from three generations of Spider-Man movies. In October, it was reported that Jamie Foxx would return to play Electro. Of course, he played the character in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was part of the second film series.
Now that the Multiverse is seemingly confirmed to play a significant part in the film, fans have been wondering if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will also be returning to play their versions of Peter Parker.
During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, actress Zendaya, who plays MJ in the latest series, was asked about the former web-slingers being in the film. In a humorous fashion, she said that she “can neither confirm nor deny” the report. As you can imagine, this has only fueled those rumors.
Spider-Man 3 will see Tom Holland return as the Spider-Man after a cliff-hanger ending in the previous installment. Joining him will be Benedict Cumberbatch, who will reprise his role as Doctor Strange. The film is currently in production and will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
