Blade has added another member to its cast. According to Deadline, Aaron Pierre has joined the upcoming Marvel Studios film based on the famed vampire hunter. The actor becomes the third person to join the cast after Mahershala Ali (Blade) and Delroy Lindo.
While the outlet didn’t reveal who he will play, they did describe the role as “major.” They also said it was “one of the more highly coveted parts in Hollywood” since the film’s director Bassam Tariq came on board in the fall.
This will not be the first time Pierre has worked on a comic book project. The British actor played Dev-Em on the Superman spinoff series Krypton. He’s also appeared recently in Amazon’s Underground Railroad series and the M. Night Shyamalan film Old.
Blade, which is being written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, is slated to begin filming sometime this summer. Originally it was supposed to start production this past fall, but it was pushed back to allow Osei-Kuffour more time to work on the script.
While Ali’s Blade has yet to make an actual appearance in the MCU, his voice can be heard during the post-credit scene of Eternals. In the final moments of the scene, when Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman is about to touch the Ebony Blade, he’s heard asking him if he’s sure he’s ready to use the sword. It will be interesting to see if Harington appears as Whiteman in the film.
If filming doesn’t begin until this summer, I imagine it won’t arrive in theaters until late 2023, possibly 2024.
So who do you think Pierre is playing?
