In the upcoming movie Thor: Love and Thunder, Tessa Thompson is set to make her third MCU appearance as Valkyrie. If you saw Avengers: Endgame, you’ll know that she will have new responsibilities as she is now the ruler of New Asgard. Well, according to Thompson, her responsibilities are not the only thing new she’ll have.
During an interview recently with W Magazine, the actress revealed that Valkyrie will have new powers in the Phase Four film.
“She has weird skills, to be honest. She can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It’s a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God.”
Her ability to sense when someone is “close to death” is something she has been known to do in the comics. In Norse mythology, Valkyries have also been known to bring people back to life. The part that she has never been known to do is switch bodies after she’s revived them.
Since her interview, fans have started to speculate that her reviving ability might somehow connect to how Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman) becomes the Mighty Thor in the film. Before she gains her powers in the comics, Foster was battling cancer. Perhaps in the movie, she actually ends up dying from it, and Valkyrie has to bring her back to life. Guess will just have to wait and see.
Along with Thompson and Portman, Thor: Love and Thunder will star Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Dave Bautista as Drax, and Christian Bale as the villain Gorr The God Butcher. It will also include Russell Crowe, who will play Zeus.
Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8.
