Report: X-Men reboot is in development at Marvel Studios

By Stephen Ippolito | March 4th, 2021

The X-Men are headed to the MCU. According to The Illuminerdi, Marvel Studios is currently developing a film based on the mutant superhero team. The outlet also reports that at the moment, the film is titled The Mutants.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any sort of news about the X-Men coming to Marvel. In 2019, at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased that the popular franchise would eventually be introduced. What’s funny is that when Feige described the project, he didn’t say X-Men. He said, “Mutants.” It seems the title of the film may have been known for quite some time.

Of course, the X-Men are no strangers to being in films. From 2000-19, 12 different movies based on the characters were made by 20th Century Fox. In March 2019, Marvel Studios was allowed to start using them after Disney completed its acquisition of Fox.

The Illuminerdi didn’t give any sort of timeframe on when to expect the film. With no writer or director attached yet, it’s going to be a while. If I had to guess, you probably won’t see it in theaters until after 2024. By that point, it will more than likely be the third Fox property released (Fantastic Four, Deadpool 3) by Marvel Studios.
