Last month, during the final trailer of Marvel Studios’ upcoming Eternals film, fans were given their first glimpse at the lead villain Kro. Since its release, rumors started circling online that former Marvel actor Dan Stevens would be voicing the CGI foe.
“[Laughs] Kro comment,” he responded with a smile. “I mean, I said ‘Kro comment’ but I don’t know if that was cryptic enough. Even if I could say anything, I wouldn’t be able to and would have to try and kill you through Zoom. Is that cryptic enough? Is that more cryptic or less cryptic?”
While he didn’t confirm it, it’s pretty evident that he is in fact playing the Deviant villain.
For those unfamiliar with Kro, in the comics, he’s one of the Eternals’ oldest enemies. Debuting in Eternals issue #1 (1976), he’s known to have a romantic relationship with Thena (played by Angelina Jolie in the film). In the trailer, all of his scenes are alongside Jolie’s Thena. So perhaps in the MCU, the two might have a similar relationship.
As mentioned before, this isn’t Stevens’ first Marvel role. From 2017-19, he played David Haller (son of Charles Xavier) on FX’s Legion. His other credits include Beauty and the Beast and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
As for Eternals, the film is directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao. It will debut exclusively in theaters on November 5.
